Finding your Art Inspiration

Do you struggle with finding your art inspiration? Knowing exactly what you want to paint and when? Well you are very lucky! For me it’s never the case, paintings evolve and appear from the surface and take many turns along the way from promising to downright ugly. I think there has to be some part of an idea before starting but it leads to unexpected diversions along the way and that is part of the fun as I am always on the quest to surprise myself too.

First of all I think it comes down to what you love and what interests you, maybe it’s people, landscapes, contemporary issues, design, mood and plus there is so many it is hard to define. For me it has always been landscape as growing up in a rural village gave me the opportunity from a very early age to explore unhindered by worries of safety, leading to a feeling of being connected to nature and almost part of its very being. This has led to finding a way to channel the love for the outdoors which suited what I needed to say and by finding art it seemed the perfect way to share not the places but a feeling of what it’s like to really combine nature with art.

It’s almost a co-existence for my love of art and the landscape that drives the outcome leading to a deeply personal record of my experiences.

So I think by trusting your interests and love of things you will always find what you are looking for, it might not be a smooth ride and have many twists and turns along the way. Be patient it takes time to unravel your journey and you will get there!
