Keeping up Your Art Practice

Finding time to make art is difficult enough without the added feeling that your time is cornered into a small segment here and there, or that you haven't a space to call your own. Do you struggle with giving yourself the space and time to give yourself freely to being creative?
Over the years I have had these issues when bringing up a family and caring commitments, but have always made a small space to create, I'll let you into a few of my secrets to keep the momentum going.
My main priorities have always been to have materials out and available either in my home or in a studio, my perfect place to keep my mind and motivation going is to have space where I frequently go and for me it is the kitchen. I have a workspace that I can use where I keep some materials that are suitable for using in the house always ready to use, this way its no trouble just to start and make marks easily. This always works for me as it could be 10 minutes here and there but it all adds up, your brain is wired to think about art making as well as meal prep!
This way you are always engaged with your practice whether in a sketchbook or something else you are making forward momentum with the development of your art.
I have a garden studio but it's not always the best place to work i.e. Light, heat (that being hot weather or cold) and sometimes because I prefer being in the house. I usually work here on larger pieces or messier materials.
Another tip I have if you like working outdoors have a bag ready with the basic things - cloths, tissue, brush, water containter and some paper or sketchbook. You can then add materials & water easily and you are ready to go.
I find all these small things help me to create consistently I hope they might help you to keep going.
