Summer of Art?

Well we have been basking in mediteranean sun for weeks now, how has that influenced your artmaking?

I should imagine there are people out there that the sun and heat inspire to get creative but unfortunately for me it has the opposite effect. It's probably because I live in a south facing house with the sun streaming in the garden all day, theres no getting away from the heat either in my studio or house so things actually come to a dead stop.

On another point I have been finding solace in my watercolours and acrylics in the kitchen when I can and have enjoyed the freedom that this has given me, I am finding more and more how valuable play and experimentation are. Using your time exploring materials and ideas is never a waste of time it all feeds into your store of experience, building skills and developing a strong sense of your style.

For some it can be a battle pushing forward when you don't feel confident, struggling with

ideas, composition, colour and finding the right way to get your message across. We all need this in our art as it is then when your development takes leaps and bounds forward, by pushing through these issues and suprising yourself with the satisfaction of creating something truly amazing.

For me learning over time has led me to be more relaxed about the pace I create finished pieces, there is no hurry it's what feels right for you. There shouldn't be any guilt if you aren't working constantly, it's a learning process not a conveyor belt to continually produce finished pieces. Enjoy your time being creative, play, explore and essentially enjoy it!

Below are a few of my recent sessions -unfinished but enjoyable :-)
